In total, 487 care packages will be distributed to local agencies serving the homeless.

Throughout the month of November, Westchester Country Day School students collected socks and toiletries to help local organizations support those experiencing homelessness.

Students donated thousands of pairs of new socks, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, gloves and other personal items. On Nov. 18, students worked together to put the items into care packages that will be distributed to men, women and children with assistance from the United Way. In total, 487 care packages were prepared by students in grades pre-K through 12 during the school-wide service activity.

Westchester involves all students in community service through its CARES Crews program, which pairs students pre-K through 12th into groups that complete service learning projects together throughout the year. These projects are a hands-on component of the school's mission to promote student growth in moral character. CARES stands for compassion, awareness, responsibility, empathy and service.
