Summer Cat CampsSummer camps at Westchester provide opportunities for students to learn new skills and build friendships in a fun, safe and nurturing environment. Camps are open to children from across the Triad!

Camp sessions are led by WCDS faculty, staff members, coaches and volunteers. Some camps are assisted by student volunteers. A Camp Coordinator is also on campus to facilitate the camps and ensure the safety and well-being of all campers.

  • Most camp sessions are held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Monday-Friday unless otherwise noted on the schedule.
  • Check-in begins daily 15 minutes prior to the start of camp.
  • Camps do not include a lunchtime unless they are full-day.

June 5-9

Beat the Heat Soccer Camp I

June 5-8, 2023 | 5:30-8:30 p.m. | Adam Schwartz | $125 

Rising 1st-9th grades

Coming off another awesome season, the WCDS soccer program has never been stronger, and there isn't a more beautiful setting to play soccer with your best friends than Kennedy Field at night! One of the most popular camps of the summer, Beat the Heat Soccer Camp will certainly fill up this summer with two great weeks of camp! This unique camp will be played "Under the Lights,” and the Brazilian music will be rocking once again this summer! Head Coach Adam Schwartz, four-time State and 11-time Region Coach of the Year, and his staff of current players and alumni will be ready to show all of the up-and-coming soccer stars what “Strength and Honor" really means. Campers who sign up for both soccer camps will receive a colored Select soccer ball, and all campers will have chances to win special soccer prizes in daily competitions! This camp is open to boys and girls with all skill levels who are excited to have fun and learn from some of the best players in Westchester's storied soccer history. This camp is Monday-Thursday ONLY.

Magic Tree House Camp

Rising 2nd-4th grades 

Come along as we embark on fun-filled magical adventures with Jack and Annie from The Magic Tree House book series! Campers will travel through time to the land of dinosaurs, Ancient Egypt, visit castles, go on an African safari, Ancient China, outer space and much, much more!  Campers will enjoy making the Magic Tree House stories come to life through creating huge "tree houses" from cardboard boxes, crafts, games, and puzzles that will help us decode the mysteries awaiting us in each Magic Tree House book!

Crafty Cat Camp

June 12-16, 2023 | 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. | Elizabeth Caddy | $160

Rising 4th-6th grades 

Do you love cats? What about crafts? Come to Crafty Cat Camp where we will not only learn about how amazing cats are,  but also make a cat toy and a lovely themed cat condo! Campers will make a hand-sewn, catnip-filled cat toy and a cat condo/house that they can take home at the end of their week for their furry friend to enjoy. Don't have a cat? Don't worry- any cat condos left behind will be donated to local cat rescues. During our week of fun, campers will learn some basic hand-sewing skills, how to safely use a hot glue gun and all about building with cardboard. This experience will be especially great for crafters and students involved with Odyssey of the Mind!

Basketball Camp

June 12-16, 2023 | 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. | Brook Patterson | $140 

Rising 3rd-8th grades

Whether you've never played basketball or you play every day, this is the camp for you! Come hang with Coach Patterson and learn the fundamentals of basketball through team competition, group activities and individual instruction. This camp is Monday-Thursday ONLY.

Volleyball Camp

The summer volleyball camp is designed to provide campers of all ability levels a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Campers will receive training in fundamentals, tactics, strength, conditioning and match play. Join us as we begin training and building on your foundation as an up-and-coming volleyball star! This camp is Monday-Thursday ONLY.

Summer Stitching Sewing Camp

Rising 3-5th grades

Are you looking for a summer camp that will be fun AND creative? How would you like to spend the week building basic sewing techniques and create a few unique, sleep-themed projects along the way? We’ll plan to create a few items that you can use every night at home or for a slumber party! Projects include a pillow and pillowcase, sleep mask, pajama shorts, and travel tote bag. It’s going to be “sew” much fun!

Magic Explorers Camp

Rising K-2nd grades

This fun magic program engages younger kids with fun crafts, songs, magic games and puzzles! Kids will learn the 3 keys of magic: Make it Fun, Think of Others and Give Your Best. Each class we teach an easy to do magic trick that the kids get to put together in a fun craft, which they learn to perform and then take home to show their friends and family. To top it all off, we end the week with a fun foam party! This camp runs Monday-Wednesday only and has a slightly later starting time. It will not run with less than 5 registered campers.

Get Your Game On Camp

June 19-23, 2023 | 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. | Sabrina Winstead | $160

Rising 3-6th grades

Do you love games of all shapes and sizes? Well, then this is the camp for you. Campers will have several fun-filled days with a different game theme each day of camp.  Games themes will include: Minute to Win It Game Day, Water Game Day, Outdoor Game Day, Board Game Day, and to wind down the week Relaxation Game Day.  Come on out and “Get Your Game On”!

Giant Comicon and Cosplay Camp

Rising 6-12th grades

If you are a member of a "Fandom" and have experience or interest in attending a Comicon, then this is the camp for you! It is ideal for creative students who want to create Cosplay, seek to improve their costume/prop making skills for Halloween, or love to participate in theater. Campers will choose a character from their fandom, go through the design and construction process, and work towards a finished basic cosplay at the end of the two weeks. Then get ready for a professional cosplay photoshoot to document your amazing completed work! Campers will also create and share a "panel" describing unique aspects of their beloved fandom to the other campers, a crucial part of any comicon. This two-week camp session allows time for design, development, building and creativity on their cosplays. Specific camp modules include: building with EVA foam, (which can be used to make armor and accessories); basic cosplay sewing; proper painting techniques (for a variety of materials); basic makeup; and adhesives/velcro techniques. Note: This camp is a two-week session ending on June 30.

Wild About Nature Camp

Come get wild and explore nature on the Wildcat campus with Mrs. Jennings and learn how to be good stewards of the world around us. We’ll learn about the roles insects, plants, animals, and weather play in nature through games, crafts, experiments, nature exploration, and more!

STEAM Camp

June 26-30, 2023 | 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. | Teresa Denmark | $170 (includes $10 supply fee)

Rising 3rd-6th grades

Come explore science, technology, engineering, art and math! Campers will explore and learn more about the world around them through an exciting week of designing, creating, testing, and learning through a variety of hands-on activities. Examples of what to expect include 3D printing, coding, reactive chemistry, model rocket building and launching, and much more.

WCDS Spirit Cheer Camp

June 26-29, 2023 (Monday-Thursday only) | 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. | Meredith Ingram | $140 

Rising 7th-12th grades

This camp is designed to offer additional practice and training for any rising 7th-12th graders with interest in cheerleading for WCDS next year. No previous experience is required. Come join the fun, whether you are an experienced cheerleader or new to the sport. We will be learning some basic stunts, new cheers, and a new dance routine. Go, Cats! This camp is Monday-Thursday ONLY.

Chill Out Camp

Rising 2nd-5th grades

We all get a little stressed out sometimes. Chill Out camp is here to help! Campers will learn helpful strategies for stress, frustration, and managing life.  Come participate in soothing activities like exercise, relaxation games, calm-down coloring, mindfulness, and much more.  Campers will be able to create amazing items to walk away with, like stress balls, fidget slime, and a calming jar.

Lego Camp

Stimulate the imagination of your budding engineers! Students will enjoy new challenges and themes each day with LEGO® bricks. Your child will build independently as well as in small groups on larger projects. Build vehicles, cities, Minecraft models, and anything else you can imagine. Games and contests will be included. Bring your creativity and imagination!

World Cultures Camp

Rising 3rd-6th grades

Transport to Colombia as we learn to dance the Salsa, then create some shadow puppets like those in Southeast Asia, and you can even try your hand at speaking a new language! At World Cultures Camp we will spend each day exploring pieces of culture from all over the world. Our focus will be on dance, art, languages, food, and more. This is the perfect camp for young travelers who dream of seeing the world!

Stress Less Camp

Recognizing and learning to alleviate stress is a vital life skill. Get ready to participate in hand-on activities, like creating stress balls, bath salts, and affirmation bracelets. Campers will explore activities that can calm the body and clear the mind, like exercise, crossword puzzles, listening to music, and more!

Science with a Twist Camp

Learn to ask questions and hypothesize outcomes through a week full of science experiments, STEM projects, crafts, and investigations. Find out what it means to be a “Questioneer” with Mrs. Jennings, Ada Twist, and her friends Iggy Peck and Rosie Revere. You are sure to have a blast!

Cooking Around the World

Rising 3rd-5th grades

During the week students will learn how to prepare foods from different parts of the world. They will make dishes from Mexico, France, China, etc. and learn how these foods came to the U.S. This is a fun way to spend the week preparing and sampling foods from near and far.

Musical Revue

Rising 1st-8th grades

Who doesn’t love a Musical Revue, especially when the songs all come from a variety of favorite shows! Campers will experience set work, costume design, construct props, and learn songs and choreography. A special performance will end the week.

NC Adventure Camp I

If adventure is your middle name, you won’t want to miss out on this exciting camp! Activities may include the following: tubing down the Dan River, hiking the infamous Hanging Rock Trail and relaxing in the lake, hiking the Stone Mountain Trail and cooling in the waterfall, riding horses at Tanglewood Park and swimming in their fabulous pool, hanging out at the W. Kerr Scott Reservoir on paddle boards and kayaks, flying through the air at Richland Creek Zipline followed by an afternoon meandering through the NC Zoo, or some other N.C. Adventure yet to be discovered. Campers will bring their own lunch and snacks for each day, along with spending money for snack bars that are located at some of our adventure spots. Come rain or shine, we will be on the road to experience an adventure… And away we go! (Activities are subject to change pending weather conditions.)

Introduction to Cooking

The daily camp will include basic cooking skills needed by future chefs. We will prepare a variety of dishes for students to take home and share with their own family. We will also take a trip on Wednesday to the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market and purchase local fruit and vegetables for some of our creations. Students will learn about measurement, different cooking techniques and trying new foods.

Calling all junior magicians! Come learn magic, do fun crafts, and play magic-themed games. Each magic lesson is designed to build character, confidence, & communication skills for life! Campers will not only learn custom magic tricks to take home but also receive specially printed secret file folders and lifetime access to an online magic video vault. Special experiences include a foam party, an escape room activity, and a magical graduation party. Note: This camp will not run with less than 5 registered campers.
