Westchester’s 37th annual event is virtual for the first time

A six-night stay at a 500-acre Montana ranch formerly owned by Dennis Quaid. Tickets to the 2021 or 2022 Masters Tournament. An exclusive bourbon collection that cannot be found elsewhere. Westchester Country Day School’s virtual auction, the Blue and White Gala, has these unique items and more up for bid this weekend.

The online live and silent auctions are open to community participation. Silent auction bidding opened Thursday and continues until 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16. Real-time bidding for the live auction through the website, event.gives/wcds, begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

“Auction has been the school’s primary fundraiser for 37 years, and all the proceeds go to supporting classroom resources and enhanced learning opportunities for students in Pre-K through 12th grade,” said Kate Moser, director of development at WCDS. “When COVID-19 hit this spring, we weren’t sure how we would be able to hold our annual event. Parents and friends of the school, and our local businesses, have rallied to support us in a big way.”

The Montana ranch getaway, donated by David and Stephanie Couch, will be auctioned off live on Saturday. Camp Warren Oates was featured in Architectural Digest and offers hiking, wildlife viewing and relaxation for a group of friends or family. The live auction also features the Masters tickets, bourbon collection and a mini goldendoodle puppy.

In addition, the silent auction has almost 200 items, including homemade items and unique experiences donated by Westchester parents, teachers and alumni.

“There’s something for everyone, with item price ranges starting at $15 and going up to priceless,” said Moser. “There are some really great gift ideas and many items representing High Point businesses. We are grateful for their participation and support of our school, especially in a time that has been particularly challenging for many of them.”

Monkees of High Point, Wynnie’s, Sweet Old Bill’s, Plank Street Tavern, High Point Jewelers and Fine Gifts, Allen and James Interior Design, Splashworks and The Blue Restaurant Group are some of the High Point businesses represented.

Visit event.gives/wcds to view items and watch the live auction broadcast at 8 p.m. Saturday.
