Golf standout Thomas Walsh, a 2015 graduate, and record-setting swimmer Virginia Marsh, a 2016 graduate, were inducted into the Westchester Country Day School Athletic Hall of Fame on April 22.

The Westchester Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes members of the school community who have distinguished themselves as outstanding contributors to Wildcat athletics, demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship and character, and established high standards of excellence in athletic achievement. Nominations are solicited from Westchester alumni and selections are determined by a committee of alumni, faculty and staff.

Virginia Marsh ’16 - Swimming

Virginia Marsh and familyAs a member of Westchester Varsity Swimming, Marsh was a four-time state record holder and a six-time state champion. She won state championships in the 100 freestyle (2014, 2015, 2016), the 100 butterfly (2014), the 50 freestyle (2015), and the 200 freestyle (2016). She was Conference Swimmer of the Year in 2014 and 2015, and she Team MVP at Westchester for three seasons.

Marsh started her collegiate swimming career at the University of Richmond and was a part of the championship team that won the A-10s during her first year (2016-17). At Richmond, she logged two top-3 finishes in both the 100-meter freestyle and the 200-meter freestyle. She holds the university record in the 200-meter freestyle. Marsh transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a letterman and member of the conference team that competed at the ACC. She was on the ACC Academic Honor Roll her senior year. Marsh graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science and sports administration. She is currently an inside sales representative at Professional Sports Publications Publishing.

"Virginia Marsh is simply the best female Wildcat swimmer in school history. Each time I walk by the swimming record board outside of my office I am reminded of that, as she holds a record in every event our school offers!” said Schwartz. “Not only is she an incredible athlete, but Virginia was also a great role model to the younger swimmers at Westchester in and out of the pool. We are so happy to welcome her into the Hall of Fame, and honor her for all her incredible accomplishments."

Thomas Walsh ’15 - Golf

Walsh FamilyAs a member of the Westchester Varsity Golf team, Walsh was a five-time NCISAA team state champion (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015) and a two-time NCISAA individual state champion (2014, 2015). He was Conference Player of the Year in 2014. He received the Wildcat Award in 2011 and the Team MVP Award all four years of his high school career. In 2012, he was the recipient of the Jerry Cole Sportsmanship Award from the American Junior Golf Association.

Walsh went on to play golf at the University of Virginia for four seasons (2015-19). He was the Atlantic Coast Conference individual champion in 2018. He was also the winner of the Porter Cup and the Inverness Intercollegiate in 2018. Recognitions include All-ACC Academic Team all four years, PING All-America Honorable Mention and Third Team honors in 2017 and 2018, All-America Scholar in 2018 and the F. Dixon Brooke Memorial Award from UVA in 2018. He graduated from UVA with a degree in politics.

His professional career includes joining PGA TOUR Canada in 2019 and PGA TOUR Latinoamérica in 2020. He currently plays on the Korn Ferry Tour.

"Thomas Walsh’s impact on the Wildcat golf program is still present to this day, and we could not be happier for him on this huge accomplishment,” said Adam Schwartz, director of athletics and Varsity Golf coach. “Thomas is one of the greatest golfers to attend Westchester, and his accolades through the years on the youth, high school and collegiate levels were incredible. It is just as awesome to watch his determination to reach his goals on the professional tour.”
