Middle School Student Wins DAR Essay Contest
A Westchester Country Day School student was recognized as the winner of a local and regional American history essay contest for the second year in a row.
Finch Lambeth, a seventh grade student, received the chapter award from the Alexander Martin chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). He was also named the district-level winner.
He was selected among middle school students in the High Point area for the chapter award, as well as students from across 11 districts in the Piedmont for the district-level award. This is the second time he has received both awards.
Finch wrote an essay about the Edenton Tea Party, which was a protest by women in Edenton, NC to the import taxes placed on the colonists by the British prior to the American Revolution. He wrote from the voice of one of the women boycotting British tea and cloth.
“I am so proud of him for taking the initiative to research and write about an historical event,” said Vanessa Sullens, Middle School history teacher.
Finch was joined by his parents and WCDS faculty at a luncheon hosted by the Alexander Martin chapter DAR. He was awarded a certificate and prize after reading his essay aloud to the audience of chapter members and local honorees.
