Chuck's Fund
Saying "yes" to our teachers and students
Some of the most meaningful opportunities at Westchester begin with a faculty member who sees a way to make a lesson come alive or finds a professional development opportunity that could bring something valuable back to the classroom. Chuck’s Fund gives the head of school the flexibility to say “yes” when those opportunities arise.
Named in honor of Chuck Hamblet, WCDS head of school from 2006 to 2009, Chuck’s Fund provides resources for needs and opportunities that arise during the school year but fall outside the annual budget. These discretionary funds strengthen the academic, artistic and athletic experiences of our students by supporting the creativity and initiative of the faculty.
Over the years, Chuck’s Fund has helped provide:
- Professional development opportunities for faculty
- Special equipment and classroom resources
- Visiting speakers and performances
- New technologies and innovative learning tools
- College and life-skills workshops for students
- And many other opportunities that enrich the Westchester experience
Remembering Chuck's Service to Westchester
In 2006, Chuck Hamblet came to Westchester with his wife, Carol, to be the interim head of school, accepting a one-year appointment while the school completed a search for a permanent head. They had most recently been at St. George’s School, a boarding school in Providence, Rhode Island, for 16 years before Mr. Hamblet “retired” as their head of school.
The Hamblets' love of school life was evident from the moment they set foot on campus. They quickly became part of the Westchester community. Chuck's steady leadership, kindness, wisdom and genuine care for others left a lasting impression on our school. Those who knew Chuck speak of his generosity, sense of joy and attention to detail. No job was too small for him when it came to taking care of Westchester.
He first brought the Head’s Discretionary Fund to the school’s Blue & White Gala auction in 2007. He knew that Westchester teachers would continue to find creative ways to help students learn and grow, often in ways that could not be anticipated when the annual budget was created.
Chuck’s Fund carries that same spirit forward: care for our school, trust in our teachers, and a commitment to putting students first.

In my few short years at WCDS, I have experienced the extraordinary dedication of the faculty in partnership with our parents that make the Westchester experience so uniquely successful.

Go Above and Beyond
A paddle raise for Chuck’s Fund is the centerpiece of Westchester's annual Blue & White Gala. Every gift gives our head of school the ability to respond when an unexpected opportunity could make a meaningful difference for our students. Your gift helps make it possible for faculty and students to go beyond what is expected, explore what is possible, and make the most of every opportunity.
