College Counseling

Individualized Approach

The college application process at Westchester is best characterized by its hands-on, individualized approach, one that begins well before the senior year as the college counselor meets with students at each Upper School grade level to counsel them through the journey. Students receive abundant guidance, advice, and instruction in several key areas, including Upper School course selection, standardized test preparation, personality and strengths inventories, career exploration, resume building, college types and research, college visits, college essays, factors that influence admissions decisions, scholarships, and financial aid. Westchester teachers write perceptive, insightful recommendations that promote each student's strengths and potential and reflect a well-developed relationship between the student and the writer. The College Office serves as a clearinghouse for all application materials, with the college counselor available to assist with any aspect of the student's application.

Parents and students alike are not alone in the college process at Westchester. With the help of college and career planning software Naviance Student, our program provides a stable infrastructure at all grade levels to ensure that the college search is a successful one. From our college preparatory curriculum to our dedicated and conscientious faculty, Westchester provides the guidance and structure necessary for our families to address the college application experience with confidence and for each student to find the college that is the best match for him or her.
