WCDS Raises Funds for St. Jude's Children's Hospital

HIGH POINT, N.C., Mar. 25, 2008 -- Middle school students at Westchester Country Day School raised $3,872.50 for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital by participating in the St. Jude's Math-A-Thon.

Math-A-Thon is a fun and educational program for which students obtain sponsorships from family and friends to work math problems. After students complete the math problems, they collect the pledges from their sponsors.

"This exercise not only reinforces the students' math skills, but is also a great way to raise money for an excellent cause," says Gardner Barrier, head of middle school at WCDS.

As a culmination of their fundraising success, a middle school lock-in was held at the school March 7. Approximately 59 students attended the all-night celebration, which included a midnight bowling trip, movies, fellowship and fun.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.
