Academic Support Services
As a means of further addressing the developmental learning needs of students, Westchester Country Day School offers academic support services. Recommendations for academic support are made by teachers, parents,and students and are reviewed by the classroom teacher, academic support teacher, division head, and guidance counselor. Students are accepted into the program on a first-come first- serve basis. There is an additional fee for most academic support services.
Early Intervention Reading Program
Students in the Lower School are assessed for reading progress starting in kindergarten. For those first and second grade students who show need for further phonetic development, academic support offers the multisensory Wilson Reading Program. There is no additional charge for first and second graders who participate. This program is also available to older students for a tutorial fee. Scheduling is carefully arranged during the school day with the classroom teacher for the child’s greatest benefit.
Individual/Small Group Academic Support Services
This program is designed to provide specific multisensory learning techniques through tutorial in reading, written language, and math for students in grades one through five. Additionally, emphasis is placed on developing learning strategies to improve the student’s overall study skills and academic performance as applied to classroom content areas. Consistent communication between the student’s current classroom teacher and academic support teacher is emphasized. Tutorial sessions are scheduled during the school day, during enrichment classes, or before or after school depending on schedule availability. These services can be contracted by semester for an additional fee.
