Application Fee
A non-refundable fee of $75.00 must accompany each application for admission.
Academic Evaluation
Lower School
Students applying to grades K-5 should give two evaluation forms to current or most recent teachers or teacher’s assistants. The forms should be returned directly to the Westchester Country Day Office of Admission in the envelopes provided.
Middle & Upper School
Students applying for grades 6-12 should give three evaluation forms to a current or most recent English teacher, Math teacher, and a 3rd teacher of the student’s choice. The forms should be returned to the Westchester Country Day Office of Admission in the envelopes provided.
School Records
Please provide current or prior school transcripts and report cards. Any additional information that you have at home is welcomed.
Admission Screening
Kindergarten
Rising Kindergarten students are expected to be five by August 1st of the intended school year. For rising Kindergarten students, the Gesell Kindergarten Assessment and Brigance Inventory of Basic Skills are individually administered to determine developmental and academic readiness.
First Grade
For rising first grade students, the Metropolitan Readiness Test is administered. This instrument emphasizes the strategies and processes in beginning reading and math.
Grades 2-5, Middle & Upper School
For applicants to grades 2-12, Educational Records Bureau (ERB) Comprehensive Testing Program is utilized. The ERB examines the student’s performance in reading comprehension and math. An essay is also given to assess the student’s writing ability. The topic is appropriate to the grade level.
A School Visit
Families of the student are asked to visit Westchester; in addition, Middle and Upper School students are encouraged to shadow during the school day with a current student. The Admission Office will help arrange school visits.
