Philosophy
Westchester Country Day’s Latin motto, Mens Sana in Corpore Sano (A sound mind in a sound body), has guided the school’s leaders to the conviction that the athletic program is a vital part of the holistic education offered at the school.
At Westchester Country Day, excellence in athletics is measured not by margin of victory, but more in terms of developing areas of personal growth for our student athletes. Physical, intellectual, and social skill building are all part of the process of preparing our young charges for future challenges. Sportsmanship, respect for others, loyalty, commitment, teamwork, and a strong individual work ethic are values held high, and relied upon as a foundation for an education within our athletic program. Winning is always a goal, but never the primary focus of our responsibility as educators.
